Altcar Training Camp, Military shooting range in Little Altcar, England.
Altcar Training Camp is a military shooting facility spanning about 2,500 acres of land in the Merseyside region. The grounds include beaches, marshland, fields, and small woods along with multiple shooting ranges, conference rooms, dining facilities, and accommodation areas.
The grounds were established in 1860 when William Molyneux, 4th Earl of Sefton, donated the land to the North West Reserve Forces. Over time the site expanded to become a major training facility for multiple branches of the armed forces.
The site functions as a training center where different British military units and cadets come together to develop their skills. Visitors can observe how the space brings together personnel from various branches working toward common training goals.
The facility is well organized with distinct areas for different activities and plenty of space to accommodate various group sizes. Visitors should check in advance what to expect in different sections and what equipment might be needed for their activities.
The grounds are home to protected natural habitats where Sand Lizards and Natterjack Toads live in designated conservation areas. This mix of military operations and wildlife protection makes the site an unusual combination of two very different purposes.
