BBC Drama Village, Television production facility in Selly Oak, Birmingham, England
BBC Drama Village is a television production complex on Bristol Road in Birmingham, made up of five buildings, including two listed historic structures and three modern industrial units. The site contains multiple studios, wardrobe departments, and post-production suites that run at the same time for different television projects.
The site opened in May 2005 as a direct replacement for Pebble Mill Studios, which had closed after decades of operation nearby. Two of the buildings on the site, including Archibald House and Melville House, date from the early 20th century and were already standing before the production complex was established.
The site is closed to the public, as television series are filmed there on a regular basis. Visitors walking along the surrounding streets may occasionally spot production crews or vehicles waiting between shoots.
The complex is not open to the public, as it is an active production site. It sits along Bristol Road, close to the University of Birmingham campus, and can be seen from the street.
Archibald House and Melville House, two of the buildings on the site, are built in the Arts and Crafts style and are Grade II listed. This means that a working television production facility operates around buildings that were originally built for a completely different purpose.
