Beehive Works

Beehive Works is a three-story red brick industrial building that stretches across eighteen bays along Milton Street, featuring stone dressing and twelve-pane sash windows. The structure now houses contemporary office spaces with exposed brick interiors and modern amenities.

Originally constructed in the late 1850s as Milton Works, the building expanded significantly during the 1880s and 1890s with additional grinding equipment and forges. These enlargements coincided with growing demand for Sheffield's metal products.

The building reflects Sheffield's metalworking heritage, with first-floor workshop spaces divided into separate areas for individual craftsmen. This layout allowed multiple independent makers to work simultaneously on different metal products.

The building is conveniently located in the Devonshire Quarter and remains accessible to visitors interested in viewing its Victorian industrial architecture. The interior layout combines preserved brick walls with functional modern office design that flows naturally.

The separate staircases leading to first-floor workshops allowed independent metalworkers to operate as individual businesses within the same structure. This multi-occupancy model was characteristic of Sheffield's flexible production methods.
