Velocity Tower, High-rise building on Inner Ring Road, Sheffield, England.
Velocity Tower is a residential high-rise in Sheffield city center, England, with a fully glazed facade and a west-facing wing that gives it an angular profile. The building has 22 residential floors and offers open views across the city from its upper levels.
The project began under the name Eclipse, with plans for a brick tower of 263 apartments. The design was later reworked into the current glass-clad building with a different layout and exterior.
The Velocity Tower stands in an area that shifted from industrial use to city-center living over the past few decades. Its glass facade stands out sharply against the older brick buildings that still surround it.
The tower sits near the center of Sheffield and is within walking distance of several tram and bus stops. The surrounding streets are easy to navigate on foot, with shops and cafes close by.
The building has a small group of wind turbines on its roof, designed to generate power for the building. This kind of rooftop energy setup is uncommon for a residential tower in a British city center.
