Bulmershe Court

Bulmershe Court, English country house in Reading, United Kingdom.

Bulmershe Court is a Grade II listed country house located in Woodley, Berkshire, featuring classic English architecture and set within substantial grounds. The main building displays period details characteristic of its construction era, with various interior spaces that reflect different phases of modification over time.

The estate came under the ownership of Henry Addington in 1789, when the name Bulmershe Court transferred to a newly constructed adjacent building. During World War II, the original building functioned as a military office facility before demolition in 1962 to make way for an educational college.

The property transformed from a private residence to an educational institution, housing Bulmershe College which merged with the University of Reading in 1989.

The site underwent major redevelopment starting in 2013 when Cala Homes acquired the property to build around 290 residential units and convert existing structures into apartments. Today, the location functions as a modern residential development, so public access to the grounds is generally limited or restricted.

The site has a deep educational connection that many overlook, having housed an education college that merged with the University of Reading in 1989. This academic legacy means the grounds witnessed the training of numerous teachers throughout much of the 20th century.
