Cheetham Close, Stone circle and archaeological site near Tottington, England.

Cheetham Close is a stone circle with a diameter of approximately 18 to 19 meters located near Tottington. Six confirmed gritstone slabs form the main arrangement in a clear circular pattern.

The circle was built between 2100 and 1500 BC and reflects the life of Bronze Age peoples. Serious damage occurred in the 1870s when a local farmer removed and displaced stones.

The site served as a gathering place for pastoral communities who depended on livestock and hunting for survival. The arranged stones reveal how important ritual spaces were to these early peoples.

Access requires a walk of about twenty minutes across uneven terrain to reach the site. Sturdy hiking boots are essential because the ground becomes muddy, especially after rainfall.

Two separate stones stand beyond the main circle, with one known as the Mire Stone bearing a carved cross. This cross historically served to mark boundaries between administrative regions.
