Wayoh Reservoir, lake in the United Kingdom
Wayoh Reservoir is a water storage lake in North Turton surrounded by woodlands in a valley setting. A curved dam holds the water, with the Armsgrove Viaduct crossing overhead and various access points along the shoreline for visitors and dogs.
The reservoir was built between 1866 and 1876 to store water after another source was redirected elsewhere. It was expanded in the 1960s to increase its storage capacity.
The paths around the reservoir span about 3 miles with varying conditions, some sections become muddy after rain. Sturdy footwear is recommended, and checking the weather forecast beforehand is wise before heading out.
An unusual overflow system with a large drop-hole in the dam creates a fine mist when heavy rain causes water to fall. Old industrial remnants are visible on the lake floor at certain spots when water levels drop.
