Cherwell Boathouse, Restaurant and boathouse on River Cherwell, Oxford, England
The Cherwell Boathouse is a restaurant and boathouse on the River Cherwell in Oxford offering both dining and punt rentals. A spacious terrace looks out over the water and surrounding green spaces, allowing guests to enjoy both activities in one location.
Tom Tims, a waterman connected to Oxford University Boat Club, leased the site from St. John's College in 1901 to establish a landing place for punts. This created the foundation for the current operation at this historic location.
The establishment maintains traditional English river activities through punt rentals while serving seasonal menus crafted by professional chefs in the restaurant.
Punts are available for rent from March to October, with daytime visits allowing you to make the most of outdoor activities. The riverside terrace is weather-dependent, so sunny days are ideal for enjoying the full experience.
Guests can navigate upstream to the Victoria Arms pub or downstream past University Parks, using rollers to pass over the weir for extended river journeys. This extended access surprises many who expect to stay in one area.
