Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, Research and mission studies center in Woodstock Road, Oxford, England
The Oxford Centre for Mission Studies is a research institution housed in a Neo-Gothic building with a tall pointed spire on Woodstock Road. The facility offers doctoral and master's programs for students from around the world.
This building was designed between 1860 and 1862 by architect George Edmund Street and consecrated as a parish church in 1862. In 1983 the church was repurposed as a mission research facility and took on its current name.
The center draws students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America who engage in theology and Christian ministry. The teaching combines academic research with practical experience from different cultural backgrounds.
The center benefits from its affiliation with the University of Oxford and provides researchers access to the extensive Bodleian Libraries. Visitors should note that this is an academic institute with limited public accessibility.
The building was originally constructed as SS Philip and James Parish Church and later fully converted for academic purposes. This transformation turned a Victorian church into a modern research facility while preserving its distinctive architecture.
