Wolfson College, Graduate college in North Oxford, England
Wolfson College is a graduate institution in North Oxford along the River Cherwell with three courtyards: Berlin Quad, Tree Quad, and River Quad with a punt harbor. The library offers individual study carrels and several reading rooms for research work.
The college was founded in 1965 as Iffley College and later received financial support from the Wolfson Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Renaming followed recognition of the main donor who enabled development of the present campus.
The name honors Sir Isaac Wolfson, whose foundation helped establish this graduate institution. Shared dining between students and fellows at a common table encourages conversation across different fields of study.
Access to the site is normally restricted to members, but the riverside location makes the exterior visible from the water. Walking along the Cherwell offers views of the gardens and courtyard architecture.
The institution was recognized as the first higher education site in the United Kingdom to achieve carbon neutrality. This distinction reflects the use of renewable energy and sustainable construction throughout the campus.
