Church of SS Quiricus & Julietta, Tickenham, Grade I listed church in Tickenham, England
The Church of SS Quiricus and Julietta is a stone church featuring elements from different periods, including a Norman arch in the chancel, side aisles from the 13th century, and colored windows from the 14th century. The layout combines the original nave with later-added aisles, creating a spacious interior.
The church began around 1001 as a building with an original nave and chancel. In the early 1200s, side aisles were added that expanded the structure and gave it its current form.
The interior displays crafted details including a wooden hexagonal pulpit from the Jacobean period in the nave and stained glass windows showing Christ. These artworks shape the character of the space and reflect different centuries of craftsmanship.
The building is accessible on summer weekends and hosts regular community services. Visitors should check ahead as access may vary depending on the season and local events.
The altar in the chancel rests on columns made of Elton ware, a special ceramic donated by Sir Edmund Elton in 1895. The baptismal font, by contrast, dates from the 1300s and shows a much older craft tradition.
