Church of St Clare, Liverpool, Gothic Revival church in Sefton Park, England
The Church of St Clare is a Gothic Revival church in Sefton Park, built with buff-colored brick and decorative stone bands. The building features a prominent seven-part window on its west side and is roofed with slate.
The building was constructed between 1888 and 1890 at the initiative of two wealthy men from the cotton trade. Architect Leonard Stokes designed the church according to the sponsors' vision.
The church is dedicated to St Clare and displays interior artworks created by leading sculptors and painters of the 1890s. These pieces reflect the artistic standards chosen when the building was first furnished.
The church sits at the corner of Arundel Avenue and York Avenue in the Sefton Park area. Visitors can join regular worship services or explore the interior during open times.
The building is the only Roman Catholic place of worship with the highest heritage designation across the entire religious administration area of Liverpool. This distinction highlights its architectural and historical importance.
