Church of St George, Beckington, Medieval church in Beckington, England
The Church of St George is a medieval building in Beckington with a four-stage tower reinforced by diagonal buttresses on its exterior. Inside, stained glass windows and wooden fixtures create the interior space and character.
The building was founded in 1301 and has shaped the village landscape ever since. In the 18th century, the nave received a new roof in 1754, and bells were installed in 1756.
Inside, you can see a Jacobean screen and communion table from the early 17th century that reflect how people worshiped and the craftsmanship of that era. The building also holds a memorial to poet Samuel Daniel, connecting the space to local history and remembrance.
The church sits in the center of the village where it can be explored on foot. You can view the exterior details and tower from the surrounding streets and churchyard area.
The tower holds eight bells, including two original pieces cast by Thomas Bilbie in 1756. Six others were recast during a major restoration in 1906.
