Coffin Stone, Prehistoric megalith near Aylesford, England

Coffin Stone is a sarsen megalith near Aylesford measuring 4.42 meters long, 2.59 meters wide, and 0.61 meters high. It sits at the foot of Blue Bell Hill on Great Tottington Farm land and can be reached via a stile along the Pilgrims' Way.

The stone is ancient in origin, but excavations in 2008 revealed it was moved to its current location during the 15th or 16th century. This means the megalith originally stood elsewhere before being relocated to this site.

The stone takes its name from its coffin-like shape, suggesting a link to ancient burial customs of the area. Today visitors can experience the landscape while aware of these timeless traditions rooted in the land.

There is no formal entrance or ticket requirement for this site, so you can visit freely. The best way to reach it is to follow the Pilgrims' Way and use the stile at the farm boundary.

In the 1830s local farmers discovered human bones near the stone, suggesting a possible link to ancient burial sites. This finding was one of the first clues that this place might be tied to the region's prehistoric past.
