Curzon Community Cinema, Grade II listed movie theater in Clevedon, England.
Curzon Community Cinema is a Grade II listed movie theater on Old Church Road in Clevedon, England, with a large auditorium, a deep stage, and pressed tin panels on the walls imported from America. The building also has two dressing rooms and was purpose-built for film screenings from the very start.
The cinema opened on April 20, 1912, making it one of the oldest surviving purpose-built movie theaters in Britain. It came through wartime damage and over a century of change in film technology without losing its original character.
The cinema shows a mix of new releases and older films, and it works as a real gathering spot for people in Clevedon. Watching a film here feels different from a modern multiplex because the hall still has its original look and feel.
The cinema is on Old Church Road, and free parking is available nearby on Great Western Road. Regular bus connections run to Bristol and the surrounding area, so it is worth checking current screening times before you visit.
The balcony sat unused for 50 years and only reopened in February 2023 with a screening of Roman Holiday. That reopening brought the building back to its full original seating capacity for the first time in half a century.
