Walton Castle, 17th-century castle in Clevedon, England
Walton Castle is a 17th-century fortified residence sitting on a hilltop near Clevedon with eight octagonal towers encircling a central keep. Curtain walls connect these towers to create an enclosed courtyard, and the interior contains 13 bedrooms and contemporary facilities throughout.
John Poulett built this structure between 1615 and 1620 as a hunting lodge while serving as Member of Parliament for Somerset. The building fell into decay over the centuries until extensive restoration work in 1979 brought it back to use as a residence.
The castle serves as a venue for charitable events, including a 2009 fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust attended by comedian Bill Bailey.
The property sits on elevated ground with views across the surrounding area and is accessible by local roads. Visitors should be prepared for the narrow passages and varied levels throughout the building, as the tower layout creates an intricate interior layout.
The structure underwent a significant transformation in 1979, converting from a ruin into a residential property with an investment of £100,000.
