Debdale Park, Public park in Gorton, Manchester, England
Debdale Park is a green space in Gorton with two former water reservoirs that serve different recreational purposes today. The site offers sports courts, a skate park, a children's play area, and facilities for water sports and ball games.
The site was purchased in 1820 by the Manchester and Salford Waterworks Company to build reservoirs for the city's water supply. After World War I, it was opened to the public and developed into a recreational park.
The park serves as a gathering space where locals practice water sports and enjoy outdoor recreation throughout the year. The water bodies and open fields shape how people experience leisure time in this part of the city.
The area is accessible from early morning until dusk and features pathways for walkers and cyclists throughout the green spaces. There is plenty of room to explore and multiple entrances depending on which activities you want to visit.
In March 1987, a test operation for Manchester's first light rail system took place here, marking an important moment in the city's transportation history. This temporary station was part of the planning for the city's inaugural tram network.
