Edinample Castle, Category A listed castle in Balquhidder, Scotland.
Edinample Castle is a fortified tower house standing near Loch Earn in the Scottish Highlands. The building features a rectangular main section with rounded corner towers and contains architectural elements from multiple centuries.
The Campbell family acquired the land in the middle 1500s and then constructed the defensive structure in the early 1580s. This building followed the Scottish defensive design principles of that era with its characteristic Z-shaped tower arrangement.
Visitors can observe how the castle's rounded corner towers and sturdy stonework reflect the building traditions of the Scottish Highlands. The mix of older structural elements and later additions shows how the structure evolved across different periods.
The castle sits on private grounds on the southern shore of Loch Earn and can be reached by a small road off the main A84 route. Keep in mind that this is a private residence, so external viewing from a distance may be the primary way to experience it.
Visitors may notice traces of an older defensive structure integrated into the eastern side of the building when viewing from outside. This layering shows how Scottish estates grew and transformed across generations.
