Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, art museum in London, United Kingdom
The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art is an art museum housed in a Georgian townhouse in London's Islington district. The museum displays works by Italian artists from about 1890 to 1950, including many Futurist pieces, paintings, and sculptures in various styles.
The museum opened in 1998 inside a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse that was restored with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The building was later improved to enlarge the ground-floor entrance, bookshop, and cafe while upgrading the exhibition rooms for visitor comfort.
The collection displays Italian artworks that reflect the country's identity and creativity during the early 20th century. The pieces show how Italian artists expressed their society and modern ideas through painting and sculpture.
The museum is open Wednesday to Saturday afternoons and Sunday with slightly later hours. Its proximity to Highbury & Islington Tube station makes it easy to reach, and a cafe and bookshop are located within the building.
The museum is the only one in Britain that focuses mainly on modern Italian art. This specialization makes it a valuable place for anyone wanting to discover Italian art history from the early 20th century.
