Garrison Theatre, Community theatre in Lerwick, United Kingdom
The Garrison Theatre sits on Market Street and features a traditional proscenium arch design with about 280 fixed seats. The seating is arranged in a shallow rake facing the stage.
The building was erected in 1903 as a drill hall and gymnasium, serving as headquarters for the 7th Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders during World War I. It was later converted into a theatre.
The theatre functions as Lerwick's main venue for live performances and community entertainment today. Residents and visitors gather here for plays, music, comedy, and dance shows that happen throughout the year.
The venue offers level access and accessible parking spaces for those who need them. Public toilets are available, and multiple payment methods including cash and cards are accepted.
After the North Star Cinema closed, this venue screened films once a month from 1989 to 2012. It served the community's cinema needs until a new multiplex cinema opened on the island.
