LeisureDome, Weston-super-Mare, Indoor sports complex in Somerset, England
LeisureDome is a proposed sports complex in Weston-super-Mare designed to house multiple recreational activities. The facility brings together an indoor ski slope, climbing wall, surfing area, and commercial spaces all within a single structure.
The development was planned for the former RAF Locking site, a military base that closed in 1999. Planning approval came in 2011, marking the beginning of efforts to repurpose the abandoned military location.
North Somerset Council granted planning permission in July 2011, with an estimated construction cost of 50 million pounds.
The complex brings multiple specialized areas together, allowing visitors to try different activities in one location. The layout also includes retail and dining spaces designed for extended visits.
The project stands out for its ambition to create the UK's longest indoor ski slope, paired with a vertical wind tunnel for skydiving. This combination would have offered a rare mix of extreme sports activities all under one roof.
