Weston Museum

Weston Museum is a local history museum in Weston-super-Mare housing over 50,000 items that trace the development of North Somerset from prehistoric times to the present day. Its collections span natural specimens and artifacts that document the region's various periods and evolution.

A shoemaker called William Mable founded the museum in 1861 to provide a public space for displaying natural history collections. Since then, the collection has expanded to document the broader history of the entire region.

Clara's Cottage displays furniture and household items from 1901, showing how people lived during that era. Walking through its rooms gives you a sense of domestic life as it was experienced back then.

The museum sits on Burlington Street and is straightforward to find. Admission is free, all galleries are wheelchair accessible, and there is a café on site where you can get refreshments.

The museum preserves a colorful pinwheel from Banksy's temporary Dismaland installation, a piece of contemporary art that visitors often overlook. This unexpected artwork creates an interesting contrast with the historical objects displayed throughout the other galleries.
