Originally converted from a market building in 1946, the theatre underwent reconstruction in 1969 following a destructive fire, resulting in a new structure costing £230,000.
The theatre maintains a strong connection with local artists and schools through events like the North Somerset Schools Dance Festival and community productions.
The stage measures 59 feet by 28 feet with an expandable orchestra pit, providing technical capabilities for various performance types and production requirements.
In 2007, The Playhouse hosted the world premiere of Houdini-The Musical, featuring a recreation of the Chinese Water Torture Cell escape.
