Odeon Weston-super-Mare, Art deco movie theater in Weston-super-Mare, United Kingdom.
The Odeon Weston-super-Mare is an Art Deco cinema from the 1930s located at the corner of Walliscote Road and Locking Road. Its facade features biscuit-colored faience tiles with a distinctive curved canopy sheltering the entrance.
The cinema was designed in 1935 by architect Thomas Cecil Howitt as one of four Odeon venues. It succeeded an earlier Electric Cinema from 1911 that had gained attention for its experimental effects.
The name refers to the Roman Odeon theaters that hosted music and performances. The building still displays features from its era as a single large cinema before being divided into separate screening rooms.
The interior was divided into four screening rooms, with the first split happening in 1973 and another screen added later. Visitors should allow time to navigate the different entrances to each screen and locate their assigned auditorium.
An original Compton organ from the opening era still functions in the lower main screen room. This instrument has survived numerous renovations and remains a rare example of this theater organ tradition.
