See Monster, Art installation at Tropicana, Weston-super-Mare, United Kingdom.
See Monster is a 35-meter tall art piece at Weston-super-Mare that shows a transformed North Sea gas platform. The structure has four levels with gardens, seating areas, water features, and viewing platforms for exploring.
The structure was completed in 2022 as part of the UNBOXED festival and represents the first conversion of a decommissioned North Sea platform into public art. The project turned an old industrial site into something entirely new.
The installation blends industrial history with environmental ideas by turning an extraction platform into a space for art and growing things. Visitors can see how it connects industry and nature in its design and use.
Visitors can walk through four different levels, each with gardens, seating areas, and viewing platforms. The pathways are accessible and you can take your time exploring each section at your own pace.
The outside of the structure has 6,000 moving metal pieces shaped like scales that shift when the wind blows. These pieces create constantly changing visual patterns as you watch them move.
