Leopold Square, Mixed-use development in West End, Sheffield, England.
Leopold Square is a mixed-use development in Sheffield's West End containing residential apartments, bars, restaurants, and a four-star hotel. The site combines restored Victorian-era structures with modern buildings arranged around an open public square featuring water features.
The project began as a transformation of the former Central Technical School, which was built between 1870 and 1894. After decades serving as council offices, the site underwent major renovation work that started in 2004.
The square draws people together in the evenings for live music performances, particularly jazz and blues that happen regularly throughout the year. It has become a social gathering place where both visitors and locals enjoy the entertainment and outdoor setting.
The square is easy to reach on foot and offers eight different restaurants and bars serving international cuisine. The space is open and freely accessible, with seating areas and water features for visitors to enjoy.
The square's design won the People's Award at the Sheffield Design Awards in 2010, marking it as the city's finest new building. This recognition highlighted how well it brings together old and new architecture.
