Lowther Hills, Hill chain in South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Lowther Hills is a chain of hills shaped like a rhombus with steep angles at the north and south ends, with Green Lowther peak rising to 732 meters at the summit. The landscape features open moorland, multiple passes, and rolling terrain that changes elevation across the region.

The region became known as 'God's Treasure House in Scotland' during the mining era when gold was extracted from the hills. The precious metal found here was used to create important Scottish royal jewels.

The passes crossing the Lowther Hills have long served as vital connections for people moving through the Southern Uplands. Local communities continue to rely on these routes to travel between settlements and maintain links across the landscape.

Three main roads cross the hills from southwest to northeast, with parking available near Overfingland on the A702 route. Weather conditions can shift quickly in the hills, so warm and waterproof clothing is important for any visit.

Wanlockhead, located within this chain, is Scotland's highest village. The area is also home to the country's only community-owned ski center, which brings winter sports to this remote mountain region.
