The Randolph Hotel, Victorian Gothic hotel opposite Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England.
The Randolph Hotel is a Victorian Gothic building on Beaumont Street in the heart of Oxford, known for its detailed stonework and ornamental facade. The hotel offers over 150 rooms along with dining spaces, meeting rooms, and a spa area.
The building was designed by William Wilkinson and opened in 1866, at a time when Oxford architects were divided between Gothic revival and classical styles. Wilkinson's design favored the Gothic approach, which is still clearly visible in the facade today.
The hotel bar became known to a wide audience through the Inspector Morse television series, which filmed several scenes there. Visitors who follow the show's locations often stop here to see the setting in person.
The hotel sits directly across from the Ashmolean Museum and within a short walk of several Oxford University colleges. Most of the city center can be reached on foot from this location, making it a good base for exploring the area.
In 2015, a kitchen fire started by flambeed food spread through the building all the way to the roof. Every person inside was evacuated without injury, despite the scale of the fire.
