Mayflower Theatre, Grade II listed theatre in Southampton, England
The Mayflower Theatre is a performance venue with around 2300 seats and the largest such facility in southern England. Multiple levels and a wide stage accommodate different types of shows and productions.
The building opened in 1928 as The Empire Theatre, originally serving as a cinema before shifting its purpose in 1942. It took its current name and theatrical function in 1987.
The venue hosts West End productions, ballet performances, and opera shows that draw audiences from across the region throughout the year. This makes it a center for theatrical entertainment in the south.
The venue sits near Southampton Central railway station and offers wheelchair access along with modern facilities throughout. A dedicated hospitality section serves corporate events and group bookings.
In 2018, the auditorium received a complete overhaul with new seating and ornate red and gold decorative patterns throughout. This transformation brought a fresh modern look to the historic building's interior.
