Northumberlandia is a monumental land sculpture in Northumberland, England, shaped as a reclining female figure. The work spreads across gentle hills and pathways, allowing visitors to walk over the shoulders, chest, and legs of the silhouette.
The sculpture took shape between 2010 and 2012 as part of a mining reclamation project. The artist used earth from nearby extraction work to form a new topography.
The site carries the nickname
The site offers several kilometers of marked trails suitable for walking and family outings. A small visitor center near the entrance provides information and has restroom facilities.
Grasses and wildflowers grow across the entire surface, shifting the color of the figure from green to gold with the seasons. Walkers often cannot fully perceive the shape up close, as they move within the contours themselves.
