Nuneham Viaduct, Railway bridge in Nuneham Courtenay, England.
Nuneham Viaduct is a railway bridge that crosses the River Thames with two steel bowstring arch trusses. It carries trains over the water near Nuneham Courtenay between Oxford and southern destinations.
The bridge was built in 1907 to replace earlier timber and iron structures. A new three-arch brick structure was added to the northern side in the following decades.
The viaduct serves as a vital connection point in the Didcot to Oxford railway section, enabling transportation links between southern ports and northern distribution centers.
The bridge sits on the railway line between Oxford and Didcot and can be viewed from nearby paths along the Thames. The best viewpoint is from the riverside walks that provide clear views of the structure.
During recent repairs the entire structure was lifted and repositioned on reinforced supports beneath the riverbed. This work shows the ongoing effort required to maintain the bridge in working order.
