One New Change, shopping mall in London
One New Change is a shopping mall and office building located in the heart of the City of London, just a short walk from St. Paul's Cathedral. It spans three levels with about 60 shops and restaurants, including chain stores like H&M, Zara, and Mango, as well as independent boutiques and dining options.
The building opened in 2010 and was the first major shopping center in the City in over 130 years, as retail had declined since the 1960s. Its construction followed a period of urban renewal around the year 2000, when new buildings were deliberately designed with shops and restaurants at ground level to make the City more vibrant on weekends.
The name One New Change comes from a historic street that once bustled with shops in this area. The glass structure sits alongside traditional London architecture, creating a visual contrast that reflects how the City continues to blend old and new.
The center is easily accessible by the underground, with St. Paul's Station on the Central Line just a short walk away, and several bus routes serve the area. Most shops are open Monday to Saturday from around 10 am to 6 pm, and on Sundays some open later at noon and close by 6 pm, making it a quieter place to shop with fewer crowds compared to larger malls nearby.
The building was intentionally built to just six floors to avoid blocking sight lines to St. Paul's Cathedral dome from a distance. Its rooftop holds a free public terrace overlooking the cathedral and London skyline, a hidden spot many visitors overlook despite it offering one of the city's best free views.
