Oxgate Admiralty Citadel

Oxgate Admiralty Citadel, Military bunker in Cricklewood, United Kingdom.

Oxgate Admiralty Citadel is a three-story structure with two basement levels positioned at the intersection of Edgware Road and Oxgate Lane. The upper basement has been converted into a carpet warehouse, while water management systems protect the lower levels from flooding.

Built between 1937 and 1940, this facility served as an alternative command center for the Admiralty to counter potential air raids on central London. Its construction spanned the period leading up to the most critical years of conflict when such protected spaces became essential.

The entrance displays the royal monogram GR VI, marking its role as an official government structure during World War II. This symbol reflects the building's importance in wartime administration.

Access to the building is limited as it is used for commercial purposes and not regularly open to the public. Visitors can view the exterior and photograph the architectural features from the street level.

This facility was one of three interconnected underground wartime command centers across north London, alongside the Paddock bunker and Station Z. This distributed network design ensured that at least one center could survive any attack on the city.
