RAF Rudloe Manor, Military air base in Corsham, England
RAF Rudloe Manor is a former air base with underground bunkers and tunnels built within converted limestone quarries. The site consists of several dispersed locations that combine surface buildings with extensive subterranean facilities.
During World War II, this location housed the operations center for No. 10 Group RAF, which coordinated aircraft missions across South West England and South Wales. The center played a key role in monitoring and directing air operations throughout the western regions.
The site contains a Grade II listed manor house dating from 1685 with traditional English design that was later modified for military purposes. The building shows how civilian structures were adapted during wartime needs.
The site now houses various government departments, with sections operating as Defence Digital under the Ministry of Defence. Visitors should be aware that this is an active military facility, and access to many areas may be restricted.
The site contained a specialized Filter Room in Browns Quarry that processed intelligence on enemy activities from 1940 to 1945. This underground facility was one of the country's most important information centers during the war.
