RAF Digby, Military air base and museum in Lincolnshire, England
RAF Digby is a former air force base near Scopwick with multiple buildings now partly used as a museum. The site preserves the Sector Operations Room and other facilities that tell the story of British air defense and intelligence gathering.
The base started in 1918 as a training depot for naval pilots and got its name from a nearby village after initial naming issues. It became important for British air defense during World War II and the following decades.
The Sector Operations Room displays equipment and documents that show how Britain developed and improved its air defense during several conflicts. Visitors see here the evolution of military surveillance techniques and understand how people used this place to protect the country.
The museum is open to visitors on Sundays from May through October and teaches about aviation history and communication technology. Visiting requires good walking ability since the site includes multiple buildings and outdoor areas.
The Sector Operations Room shows the actual workstations and controls that operators used during air defense operations. The facility gives a direct sense of how staff constantly tracked information and responded to threats.
