Scottish Industrial Railway Centre

The Scottish Industrial Railway Centre is a railway museum in East Ayrshire housing steam locomotives, diesel engines, and industrial railway equipment from different eras. The collection includes vehicles that once worked in Scottish industries.

The centre began in 1980 at a former coal mine near Minnivey and moved to Dunaskin Heritage Centre in 2002. The relocation provided better conditions for preserving Scotland's railway heritage.

The museum shows how railways shaped Scotland's mining and whisky production industries. Visitors see the engines and cars that once worked in mines and distilleries.

The museum opens on selected dates throughout the year and offers train rides. Visitors should check ahead which days are accessible since opening times vary by season.

The centre houses the only operational fireless locomotive in the United Kingdom. This rare engine is demonstrated during special events.
