Cloncaird Castle, Medieval castle in Kirkmichael, Scotland

Cloncaird Castle is a stone tower house that rises above Kelsie Burn with four storeys, an attic level, and a distinctive projecting third floor. This floor is supported by corbels, a stone bracket technique typical of Scottish fortress design.

The castle came into Mure family hands during the 15th century, and Patrick Mure was killed at the Battle of Flodden in 1513. This loss shaped the estate's path through subsequent centuries.

An armorial panel from 1585 carved into the castle wall shows the period when the Mure family held considerable power in South Ayrshire. Visitors can observe this stone record of local authority directly as they explore the exterior.

The estate provides eight separate guest cottages, each with modern kitchens and sleeping capacity for two to six visitors. These accommodation options let travelers spend extended time exploring the surrounding landscape at a relaxed pace.

The grounds sprawl across 140 acres of Scottish countryside with gardens, woodland trails, and walks along the River Girvan. This vast expanse lets visitors venture far beyond the castle itself and immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
