St Deiniol's Church, Grade II* listed Gothic church in Hawarden, Wales
St Deiniol's Church is a Gothic church in Hawarden featuring pointed arches and solid stone construction throughout. The building includes a substantial bell tower and several interior chapels that create distinct spaces for worship and gatherings.
The building underwent major restoration from 1855 to 1856 under architect James Harrison. A fire in 1857 damaged the structure, leading to additional repairs that preserved its standing and character.
The Gladstone Memorial Chapel inside holds a sculpture honoring former Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, created by Sir William Richmond. This space brings together local and national history through its artistic craftsmanship in stone and bronze.
The church is accessible on foot and lets visitors view the Gothic architecture and interior closely. The churchyard is also open during service times, allowing visitors to explore the grounds and memorials quietly.
The churchyard holds 57 war graves from both World Wars and a memorial to those who fell in the South African conflict. These monuments link personal stories from distant conflicts to this Welsh village and create a quiet space of remembrance.
