Jubilee Bridge, Bascule bridge in Queensferry, Wales.
Jubilee Bridge is a bascule bridge made of steel that crosses the River Dee with a movable deck and three sections. It was designed to carry both vehicles and pedestrians between Garden City and Queensferry, serving as a key crossing point.
The bridge was constructed between 1925 and 1927 by Sir William Arrol & Co as a replacement for an earlier structure. The original bridge had been built in 1897 during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The bridge earned Grade II listed status in 2005 through Cadw recognition, marking its contribution to Welsh industrial and architectural heritage.
The bridge is open to both vehicles and pedestrians using the B5441 road at all times. Crossing is straightforward and requires no special arrangements or permits.
The lifting mechanism was removed during the 1960s when commercial shipping traffic stopped using the river. Remnants of the original 1897 structure remain visible at low tide near the bridge supports.
