St George's Church, Heaviley, Anglican church in Heaviley, Stockport, England.
St George's Church is an Anglican church built from red sandstone with a 72-meter spire that combines Gothic Revival and Art Nouveau features. The building holds over 1,000 worshippers with a dedicated choir space for 70 singers.
The foundation stone was laid in 1893 and the church was consecrated in 1897, funded by a local brewer who also supported construction of the vicarage and schools. This generous patronage shaped the community's development during that period.
The interior features alabaster carvings, oak furnishings, and stained glass windows that reflect religious imagery and craftsmanship. These decorative elements shape how the space feels when you enter and walk through the building.
The church holds regular services throughout the week and welcomes visitors to explore the interior at designated times. Parking is available in the surrounding area, making it easy to reach the building from local streets.
A memorial from 1920 in the churchyard commemorates 137 men who died in World War I, topped with a statue of Saint George beneath a protective canopy. This monument reveals how the community marked an important loss from that era.
