St George's Church, Portobello, Gothic Revival church in Sheffield city centre, England

St George's Church is a Gothic Revival building in Sheffield city centre featuring a tall tower and spacious interior spaces. The main hall has a flat ceiling divided into six sections, with a smaller chancel space at the east end.

The building was founded in 1821 and consecrated in 1825 as one of Sheffield's first Anglican churches. Its role shifted over time, and in 1994 it transitioned to serve the University of Sheffield as an educational facility.

The church was the spiritual center of the local Anglican community for generations. Today it serves the university community, blending its religious past with modern educational use.

The building sits within the University of Sheffield campus and is accessible by public transport. Keep in mind that it remains an active learning and residential environment today.

The church tower is home to a breeding pair of peregrine falcons, monitored through a live-streaming webcam installed by the university. This rare falcon nesting site in the city centre draws regular attention from bird watchers.
