St Mary's Church, Handbridge

St Mary's Church in Handbridge is a Gothic Revival building with stone walls and a three-stage tower crowned by a pointed spire. The tower features small decorative windows and a weathervane at its peak.

The church was built between 1885 and 1887 by architect F. B. Wade for a wealthy patron. A porch was added later to enhance the entrance.

The eight bells cast in the tower create a distinctive sound that carries across the area. Inside, stained glass windows by Edward Frampton display scenes in bright colors that catch the light.

Access is generally available, though opening times are limited so it is wise to check before visiting. Keep in mind that this is an active place of worship, so respectful behavior is important.

The reredos behind the altar was created using an elaborate cloisonné technique with a detailed design. This artistic piece represents masterful craftsmanship from a skilled artisan.
