Stobo Castle, Category A listed castle in Scottish Borders, Scotland
Stobo Castle features a main square block of two stories with a basement, round corner towers, and a higher central block with a porch.
The Manor of Stobo changed ownership from the Balfour family to become the Graham-Montgomery Baronets' family seat starting in 1767.
The estate grounds contain Japanese-influenced water gardens and three large lakes created by English cricketer Hylton Philipson in the early 1900s.
The castle operates as a health resort with modern amenities, including hotel rooms and a swimming pool added through a large extension in 2003.
In 1650, the Stobo estate, along with Dawyck House, introduced horse chestnut trees to Scotland, marking the first appearance of this species.
