The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory, Botanical conservatory in Lincoln, England
The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory is a botanical greenhouse in Lincoln housing plants from tropical, subtropical, and desert climates. The collection is divided into different climate zones to provide each plant group with the conditions it needs to thrive.
The greenhouse was built in 1989 as part of The Lawn complex and moved to Woodside Wildlife Park in 2016 after Lincoln City Council sold the original site. This relocation allowed the collection to connect with other conservation programs.
The place displays plant species that represent the botanical discoveries made during Sir Joseph Banks' voyages aboard HMS Endeavour between 1768 and 1771. Visitors can see living examples that connect to these historical exploration journeys.
The facility is open year-round with visiting times that vary by season, so it is helpful to check current hours before your visit. Guided tours explain the plant collections and their scientific importance, helping visitors understand more about the species and where they come from.
The glass structure was designed to mimic natural light conditions and optimally supply each climate zone. This special architecture lets visitors stand under completely different conditions without leaving the grounds.
