The Stables, Music venue in Milton Keynes, England
The Stables is a music venue in Wavendon, on the edge of Milton Keynes, with two performance spaces of different sizes. The program runs throughout the year and covers jazz, folk, classical, and contemporary music across both spaces.
The venue was founded in 1970 by jazz musicians John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, who converted a stable building on their Wavendon estate into a small concert hall. Over the following decades the program grew and the building was gradually expanded to welcome a wider audience.
The name comes from the original stable building that still forms the heart of the venue, and traces of that agricultural past can be felt in the brickwork and low ceilings. Audiences here tend to mix genres freely, moving from a jazz evening to a folk concert without any sense of contradiction.
The venue has free on-site parking, which makes it easy to reach by car from across the region. The two spaces differ in size and feel, so it is worth checking which one is hosting the concert you plan to attend before you arrive.
The venue runs a scheme where concertgoers can buy extra tickets at checkout to give to families who would not otherwise attend live music. The system works without any formal application process and runs directly through the regular booking platform.
