Two Tree Island, Nature reserve in Leigh-on-Sea, England
Two Tree Island spans 257 hectares of reclaimed marshland, featuring walking trails and bird observation points along the Thames Estuary shoreline.
The land emerged from the Thames Estuary in the 1700s, initially serving as pasture before transforming into a landfill site between 1936 and 1974.
The Essex Wildlife Trust manages this protected area, focusing on preserving natural habitats and maintaining bird sanctuaries for numerous species.
Visitors can access four bird observation structures across the reserve, with two positioned at the western section overlooking a wader feeding lagoon.
The eastern section contains military pillboxes from the Great War era, which formed part of a strategic communication network along the Thames.
