Whippendell Wood

Whippendell Wood is an ancient forest in Watford featuring a mix of oak, beech, ash, and silver birch trees across its protected land. The woodland is crisscrossed by multiple footpaths and routes that connect to nearby Cassiobury Park and offer different ways to explore the space.

The woodland takes its name from the Anglo-Saxon term Wippa denu, which has been preserved through centuries. An avenue of lime trees planted in 1672 marks one of the forest's oldest features and reflects its deep historical roots.

The woodland served as a filming location for major film productions, including Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and various television series. This connection to the entertainment industry has made it a destination for visitors interested in seeing where their favorite stories were brought to life.
