Skokholm Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Marloes and St Brides, Wales.
Skokholm Lighthouse is an octagonal stone tower with white and red markings located at the southwestern tip of Pembrokeshire. The Grade II listed structure measures 18 meters in height and features a lantern room at the top for navigation signals.
The lighthouse entered service in 1916 to guide ships traveling between Milford Haven harbor and the Bristol Channel. It was automated in 1983, reducing the need for permanent staffing on the island.
The Grade II listed structure stands within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, representing maritime navigation heritage in southwestern Wales.
The lighthouse operates on solar power and emits white and red flashing signals every ten seconds, visible from ships up to 8 nautical miles away. The island location means that access and viewing opportunities depend on tidal conditions and weather.
Operating the lighthouse required construction of a specialized dock equipped with narrow-gauge railway tracks to transport supplies across Skokholm Island. This unusual infrastructure enabled the regular resupply and maintenance of the isolated site.
