DM Glen Douglas, Military ammunition depot in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.
DM Glen Douglas is a military ammunition storage site in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The facility contains 56 underground magazines carved directly into the hillside across 226 hectares, positioned near Loch Long and Loch Lomond.
The depot was built between 1962 and 1966 as a NATO storage facility. It operated until 1993, holding large quantities of missiles and conventional ammunition during the Cold War period.
The depot represents a significant part of British military infrastructure, connecting to local communities through its railway line and the Glen Mallan jetty.
The site can be accessed from the north by dedicated military road, with supply access via a jetty on Loch Long. Being an active military installation, public access to the facility is heavily restricted or not available.
In 2003, locomotive drivers from Motherwell refused to transport munitions to the depot, an action that gained support from Members of Parliament. This incident revealed strong local opposition to munitions transportation through the region.
