Central Bandstand, Herne Bay, Art deco bandstand in Herne Bay, England
The Central Bandstand extends over the beach with concrete pillars supporting a raised stage platform facing the Kent coastline at Central Parade.
Built in 1924 by architect H. Kempton Dyson, the structure received an art deco façade addition in 1932 and underwent major restoration work in 1998.
The bandstand functions as a primary entertainment venue for military bands, local musicians, theatrical performances, and seasonal community gatherings throughout the year.
Located directly on the seafront promenade, the Central Bandstand includes indoor spaces and balconies that accommodate various types of events and exhibitions.
The structure was among the first reinforced concrete buildings in Britain, with its original design allowing tides to flow underneath until modifications in the 1950s.
